Gerry Freed - Director Professor Gerry Freed, B.Sc(Hons). SMIE(Aust). FAIM. C.Eng(Biomed). After retirement to Australia in the early 1970s he joined the Nucleus Group, manufacturing and exporting medical technology. Again, with the Group exporting more than 80% of production as C.E.O of several of the operating companies, he managed the development of a global market presence. In recent years he has advised BLE Capital on venture capital and technology investment, reviewing some 3000 plans for developing businesses while, with a Chair in Management, running the MBA Programme at Wollongong University. He was a founding director of a new business incubator in the Illawarra region. He has held Directorship in Europe, USA, Asia and Australia in both public and private companies, specialising in innovative technology driven businesses. He advised a CSIRO Division on restructuring and improving its industry relationships. He was a founder of the Australian Centre for Innovation at the University of Sydney. With them he has advised on the effects of changes driven by technology on regional and national development options. His consulting practice providing technology, managerial and financial advice and is currently focussed on agribusiness and the prognosis for rural industry. His main client is AMP Investments Australia Ltd, for whom he is developing activities in emerging markets, technology transfer and agribusiness investment. His two main fields of interests are the leverage of innovation on the competitive performance of global business and the future of small business in employment and wealth creation. He is at present advising on the impact of e-commerce on new forms of competition and on the impact of evolving global industrial forces on national interests in agri-food exports. As a founding committee member of FAIR (France-Australia Industrial Research) he is deeply involved in a bi-lateral agreement to create economic benefits to both countries by creating new linkages for commercialising R&D. This includes identifying specific industrial developments in which the factor conditions in France and Australia are complementary, to facilitate Asian and European market development. Gerry is an Executive Director of Pacific Corporate Pty Ltd which specialises in advising Australian private companies on merger, sale and acquisition strategies to join global groupings. He speaks widely on Social and Business Futures, R& D and Innovation management and the role of venture capital in wealth creation. |
