Peter North has had a distinguished career in the automotive industry, as a business consultant and as non-executive director of ASDX listed companies.

In his automotive career he held top management positions in Canada, USA and Australia, including Co-Director of Ford Motor Company’s role in the North American Automotive Free Trade agreement; Product Planning Manager and later General Marketing Manager of Ford Australia; Finance Director and later Managing Director of British Leyland Australia; and director of British Leyland International.

Peter North started his consulting career with McKinsey & Company Inc and later formed Streeton Consulting Pty Ltd, specialising in corporate policy and strategy issues. He has advised leading companies in many industries, was consultant to the 1975 Federal Government Green Paper Committee on Manufacturing Industry and led an extensive study of professional liability exposure and risk management for the legal profession, co-authoring the book Managing Client Expectations and Professional Risk used in the profession’s risk management education throughout Australia.

Mr North has been non-executive director of Leighton Holdings Ltd (Australia’s largest engineering construction company), Leighton Asia Ltd (based in Hong Kong and operating throughout Asia) and of Cochlear Ltd (world leaders in the bionic ear); and Chairman of Mildara Blass Ltd (leading winemaker), Malco Industries Ltd (heavy engineering) and Heggies Bulkhaul Ltd (bulk chemicals and minerals transport).

He is a founder, and is now Chairman, of The Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering, a non-profit institute set up by industry and the engineering profession within the University of Sydney, to pursue excellence and innovation in advanced engineering throughout Australia.

In 2005 he was made Member of the Order of Australia “for services to engineering and to business through the Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering and as a contributor to the advancement of innovative technology in manufacturing and other industries.”

Mr North is Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Design, University of Sydney); Master in Business Administration (with Distinction, Harvard University); a Founding Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors; Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management; Fellow and National Councilor of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering; and Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia.
