IMNIS (Industry mentoring Network in STEM), the national mentoring program connecting researchers and industry mentors, has appointed Professor Ron Johnston as a member of an Expert Advisory Panel of senior business and academic leaders to advise on implementation of the scheme.
IMNIS is an award-winning industry-led mentoring initiative of ATSEthe Australain Academy of Technology and Engineering which connects PhD students with experienced industry mentors who provide advice and act as role models for industry-based STEM careers.
After successful pilots in Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia, IMNIS is rolling out nationally this year. Within the first three months more than one-third of Australian universities have agreed to join the program.
It aims to develop a new generation of industry-aware PhD graduates who, through engagement with industry mentors, expand their knowledge of, and appreciation for, research and development and commercial activities in relevant industries
